Adobe How To Guide by Health AcademyHow to Sign Up

You can start using Adobe Express for free. While there are paid premium options available, the free version is sufficient. Please note that Health Academy does not require a paid subscription and will not be liable for any personal purchases or subscriptions you choose to make. Here is the step-by-step process on how to create an individual account:
- Visit the Official Site: Go to the Adobe Express UK homepage.
- Click ‘Get Adobe Express Free’: Look for the button in the centre or top right of the page.
- Choose your Sign-up Method: You can create an account using:
- An email address (you will need to create a password).
- We recommend that you use your university email address so you do not share your personal details when collaborating with your peers.
- Verify your Account: If you sign up via email, Adobe will send a verification code to your inbox to confirm your identity.
- Personalise your Experience: The app may ask a few questions about your role (e.g., student) to suggest the most relevant templates for you.
How to Collaborate on a Design (Free Plan)

Step 1: Open your Design
Log in to Adobe Express and open the project you wish to share.
Step 2: Invite Your Collaborators
- Click the Share button in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
- Select Invite collaborators.
- In the pop-up box, type the email addresses of the people you want to work with.
- Note: They will need their own free Adobe account to edit the file.
- Under the email box, ensure the permission is set to “Can edit”.
- Click Invite to edit.
Step 3: Collaborate in Real-Time
- Co-editing: When your teammates join, you will see their profile icons appear at the top of the screen. You can actually see their cursors moving as they make changes.
- Commenting: If you want to leave feedback without changing the design, click the speech bubble icon (Comment) in the top right. You can tag teammates using the @ symbol.
Important Tips for Free Users
- Link Sharing: You can also click “Link Settings” in the share menu to create a public link. If you set this to “Anyone with the link can edit”, be careful who you send it to, as they won’t need a specific invite to make changes.
- Premium Assets: If you use a “Premium” image or font in a shared design, your collaborators will still be able to see it, but they (or you) may see a watermark unless you stick to the free assets. We recommend sticking to items without the ‘Crown’ icon.
- Closing the Project: Adobe Express saves automatically. However, it is good practice to close the tab when you are finished so others know the “main” editing session is clear.
Collaborator Etiquette: Working Together Smoothly
This is a placeholder tab content. It is important to have the necessary information in the block, but at this stage, it is just a placeholder to help you visualise how the content is displayed. Feel free to edit this with your actual content.

To avoid accidentally deleting someone’s hard work or making the design look like a “digital tug-of-war,” please follow these simple steps:
1. Use the “Claim a Page” Rule
If your project has multiple pages, assign one page to each person.
- How to do it: Use the “Pages” view at the bottom of the screen. Label your page with your name or initials in a small text box off to the side so others know you are currently working there.
2. Comment Before You Change
Before making a major change to someone else’s design (like changing the font or background), leave a comment first.
- Pro Tip: Click the Speech Bubble icon, click the element you want to discuss, and tag your colleague using @Name.
3. Watch for the “Active Cursor”
Adobe Express shows you where other people are clicking in real-time.
- The Rule: If you see someone else’s colored cursor or a blue selection box around an image/text, don’t touch it! Editing the same element at the same time can cause “save conflicts” where one person’s changes get overwritten.
4. Stick to the “Free” Library
Since we are using the Free version, please only use assets that do not have the ‘Crown’ icon.
- If you add a Premium asset, it may prevent the rest of the team from being able to download or “Share” the final design without a watermark.
5. Group Your Elements
Once you are happy with a section (like a logo and its text), select them all and hit Group. This makes it much harder for a teammate to accidentally nudge one tiny piece out of alignment or delete it.
6. The “Check-Out” Rule
When you are finished with your edits, close the browser tab. This lets the rest of the team know that you are no longer “active” in the file and it’s safe for them to take over the main layout.
How to Download Your Design

Use this when you want to save a file to upload to your portfolio.
- Click Download: In the top right-hand corner of the editor, click the Download button.
- Choose Your File Format: * PNG: Best for high-quality images and social media posts.
- JPG: Best for smaller file sizes.
- PDF: Best for documents or anything you plan to print.
- MP4: Use this if your design has animations or video clips.
- Select Resolution (for Video/MP4): If you are downloading a video, select 1080p (the standard high-quality setting that works everywhere).
- Finalise: Click the Download button again. The file will save directly to your computer’s “Downloads” folder.
Note: If a “Premium” pop-up appears, it means you’ve accidentally used a “Crown” icon asset. Simply swap that image or font for a free one to download without paying.
How to Share a Live Link

Use this if you want to send someone a link so they can view the design in their browser without downloading a large file.
- Copy & Send: Adobe will generate a unique URL. Click Copy and paste it into an email, WhatsApp, or message.
- Click Share: In the top right-hand corner, click the Share button.
- Select ‘Publish to Web’: This creates a public-facing page for your design, this means the viewer cannot edit your design.
- Create Link: Give your project a title and click Create Link.

Adobe Express: Frequently Asked Questions
Is it actually free to use?
Yes. You can create, edit, and download designs using the “Free” plan without ever entering your card details. Some features and images are marked with a Crown icon—these are “Premium” features. If you use one of these, you will be asked to pay before downloading. Stick to the non-crown assets to keep it free.
Why can’t I download my design?
If the “Download” button is greyed out or asks for payment, it’s almost always because a Premium asset (font, image, or template) has been used. Check your layers for the small Crown icon and replace those items with free alternatives to fix this.
Does Adobe Express save my work automatically?
Yes, it saves to the cloud every few seconds as you work. If your browser crashes or you lose your internet connection, your progress should be safe when you log back in.
Why does my design look blurry on my screen?
Adobe often displays a lower-resolution “preview” to make the website run faster while you edit. Once you click Download and save the file as a PNG or PDF, the final version will be crisp and high-resolution.
Can I use this on my mobile or tablet?
Absolutely. You can download the Adobe Express app on iOS and Android for free. Anything you start on your computer will automatically sync to your mobile device as long as you log in with the same account.
My video audio is very quiet; can I make it louder?
Yes. Click on your video clip in the timeline, and a volume slider will appear in the settings panel on the right. You can also use the “Enhance Speech” feature to make voices clearer and louder automatically.
What happens if I accidentally click the “Premium Trial”?
Adobe often offers a 30-day free trial of the Premium version without entering your card details. We do not recommend signing up for this after the trial unless you are prepared to manage the subscription yourself. Health Academy is not liable for any charges incurred if you sign up to the premium package.
How do I remove a background from a photo?
Simply click on the photo you have uploaded and select the Remove Background button from the menu on the left. Adobe’s AI will handle the rest.
